PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Once a gang member in Nairobi’s Mukuru Lunga Lunga slum, Shabu Mwangi was transformed by the violent loss of his closest friends—turning to art as therapy and a path to reform. Now an internationally acclaimed artist, he leads the Wajukuu Arts Collective, confronting generational trauma and injustice while using art as a bold tool of activism. Though offered the chance to live abroad, Shabu chose to remain in Mukuru, dedicating himself to empowering the community that shaped him. As the collective prepares for a landmark exhibition and build a new studio symbolising their rebirth, the film follows their creative and political awakening.

Their journey unfolds against Kenya’s rising wave of political resistance, where corruption and inequality fuel a new generation’s defiance as they use their art to challenge oppressive systems. Heirs of No Regret is an urgent portrait of transformation and resistance, proving that creativity can ignite activism, reclaim dignity, and rewrite futures.
