Akash Basumatari

A second $10,000 grant was awarded to the Indian filmmaker Akash Basumatari for his project Farming the Revolution

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Farming the Revolution chronicles the remarkable resilience of Indian farmers who, in the face of corporate-backed farm laws imposed during the COVID-19 lockdown, staged one of the largest peaceful protests in history. For 13 months, thousands encamped at Delhi’s borders, braving extreme weather and state hostility to defend their land and livelihoods. Away from their fields, they cultivated a movement—nurturing solidarity, defying oppression, and safeguarding democracy itself. Their ultimate victory, rare in today’s world of suppressed dissent, stands as a powerful testament to collective resistance and the enduring spirit of those who refuse to be uprooted.
